Jeff Golub (April 15, 1955 – January 1, 2015) was an American jazz
guitarist who had a solo career and who led the band Avenue Blue. He
worked as a sideman for a number of rock and pop musicians. He was
arguably best known for his work with Rod Stewart, with whom he played
from 1988 until 1995.
This is the weekend. It's Saturday. The January of 2021 is
coming to an end. I was experimenting with listening to some new
artists; not necessarily any new music, though. Thanks, to the
suggestions in
Amazon music,
which I have developed a preference for over YouTube, this gentleman
came to my attention.
It's probably the first time I am hearing the name of Jeff
Golub. Despite having been an avid music listener for about 30
years, this name never surfaced as of any significance. It's
only today that I learned of his long association with Rod
Stewart. Now, so many already know of Rod Stewart and so do
I. But, the name, Jeff Golub is new to me. Maybe I never
paid attention, though, for sure I have heard his music before, from
what the brief biography mentions on Wikipedia.
As many are, the guitar - particularly the electric guitar - is my
favorite instrument to listen to. Of course, the guitar has been
at the forefront of the music scene with musicians such as David
Gilmour, Eric Clapton, Mark Knopfler, and a group like Led Zeppelin...
So, coming back to the main point, it's about Jeff Golub. I had
heard a few guitarists since morning, and this man's playing
immediately showed a difference. It was immediately evident that
this was a man who was in that league where one is considered a master
- skillful, free-flowing, creative, natural, having fun, and sharing
that fun with others. On this album, The Vault, Jeff Golub, and
a few of his fellow musicians are doing exactly this. I am
listening to this album right now while typing these thoughts.
This is the song at which point I decided to start writing
Usually, I don't spend time writing my own thoughts. For other
items on this site, the product speaks for itself. In this case,
though, especially since it is music and I am enjoying listening to
it, I rather felt like writing; not just post a few details and post a
link to the Amazon page.
If you have never heard this man playing, especially in his
instrumental gigs, or don't know who Jeff Golub is, then this album
would be a great place to start. You will enjoy his work, his
collaboration, and then, you will want to hear of this man
playing. I am pretty sure, this is how you will feel.
There isn't anything more to say. I am just sharing a link to
Jeff Golub's Amazon page, and also sharing few links below to what you can expect to find
there. That is all. Listen to this man's music. It
is a real pleasure. He is effortless in playing, and it is
relaxed, it is fun listening to him. He is real smooth.
I am going to listen to this album once again all the way from the
start to the end.☺
